The Nordic Audio Labs NU-880K FloFET is a flagship large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for mono, stereo and surround recording from a single microphone. Its native B-format WXY architecture provides exceptional flexibility for studio recording, orchestral sessions, ambience capture, film scoring and spatial audio production.
The NU-880K is built around two proprietary D100K 30 mm large-diaphragm, edge-terminated capsules, each paired with independent FloFET™ circuitry. Nordic Audio Labs describes the design as equivalent to two perfectly matched NU-100K microphones housed in a single body, allowing different recording techniques to be achieved without changing microphones.
Its variable horizontal B-format output allows the desired pickup patterns and aiming angles to be selected during mixing or post-production. This makes it possible to create multiple virtual microphones from the same recorded signal, from focused mono applications through stereo configurations to surround ambience recording.
The NU-880K features a fully balanced 5-pin XLR output, 13.0 dBA self-noise and a maximum SPL of 137 dBA at 1% THD. It operates from standard +48 V phantom power and is handmade in Finland. The microphone includes a shock mount, cable, breakout box, hard case and a perpetual Harpex-X plug-in license.
